India's Ministry of External Affairs has issued a new advisory for Indian citizens traveling to Russia.
The Ministry stated that it continues to receive reports of Indian citizens being recruited into the Russian armed forces.
The government has once again warned people to exercise caution when seeking job opportunities abroad and to avoid falling prey to job offers from unverified individuals or agents.
The Ministry noted that warnings regarding these risks and dangers have been issued multiple times over the past two years. Despite this, some individuals are accepting offers to join the Russian army, lured by the prospect of financial gain. Subsequently, they demand that the Indian government intervene to secure their release. The government has advised people to steer clear of such actions, describing them as dangerous.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, in some instances, Indian citizens are voluntarily renouncing their Indian citizenship to acquire Russian passports and subsequently joining the Russian army. The Ministry emphasized that individuals must understand the gravity of such decisions and the life-threatening risks involved.
The Ministry also mentioned that certain non-governmental organizations and volunteer groups are recruiting foreign nationals. Therefore, Indian citizens should thoroughly verify any job offer before accepting it and seek employment opportunities only through agents registered with the Ministry of External Affairs.
The Ministry stated that the Government of India remains in constant contact with Russian authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of Indian citizens currently in the Russian army and to secure their early release.
