Earlier, Odisha claimed that the method of making rasogulla reached West Bengal from there.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her happiness on this victory. She said that it is a matter of joy and pride for the entire state. Indeed, for the last long time, West Bengal and Odisha were clamoring for this GI tag.

Odisha claims that Rasgulla was born in Jagannath temple in Puri. According to this story, after Rath Yatra, when Lord Jagannath returned, the door was found closed because Goddess Lakshmi was angry with him. Her resentment was due to this that Jagannath did not take them with him. Jagannath is offering rasgulla to cheer up the goddess and the goddess becomes happy.
