Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus has said that India's statement that the protests in Bangladesh are an internal matter of the country is painful.

Economist Mohammad Yunus has expressed disappointment over India's statement on the student protests in Bangladesh.

He has warned that this unrest can spread to neighboring countries as well.

Mohammad Yunus told the English daily 'Indian Express' newspaper published from India that why India said that this is an internal matter of Bangladesh, I am saddened by this.

Mohammad Yunus has said that when your brother's house catches fire, how can you say that it is your internal matter.

Mohammad Yunus said, "There are much richer words in diplomacy to put forward your point, just saying that it is an internal matter is not enough."

In July 2024, India refused to comment on the violent protests by students in Bangladesh over reservation in government jobs.

India's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told the media, "We consider it an internal matter of Bangladesh."

Internet services shut down in Bangladesh

The Bangladesh government has ordered the shutdown of internet services across the country. Before the violence on Sunday, August 4, 2024, internet services on mobile were shut down in Bangladesh, while broadband service was continuing.

According to reports, now the government has ordered a complete shutdown of internet services across the country.

Students have been on strike in Bangladesh since July 2024. There has been massive violence and arson in the country in this movement. About 300 people have also died in this.

According to news agency AFP, this also includes the death in the violence of Sunday, 4 August 2024.

Students in Bangladesh are demanding the abolition of quota in government jobs, although the government has reduced some quotas, but the students are now demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The most read news website in Bangladesh, Dhaka Tribune, and its sister publication Bangla Tribune, have both gone offline.

Another news website The Daily Bangla Star is also down.

What does the shutdown of mobile internet services in Bangladesh mean?

According to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, by the end of 2023, the number of people using the Internet in Bangladesh was 131 million.

About 90 percent of these people use the Internet through mobile.

This is the second time in a week that internet services have been suspended in a part of Bangladesh in view of the unrest.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister have left the country and moved to a 'safe place'.

According to BBC Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina has left for Agartala, the capital of the Indian state of Tripura.

Earlier, students have been agitating in Bangladesh since July 2024. The students demand that the reservation in most of the big government jobs in the country be abolished.

Although after the student movement, the Sheikh Hasina government has reduced some quotas, but amid the ongoing violence, the students were adamant on demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

So far, about 300 people have died in Bangladesh in the violent movement of students. To control this movement, the government had called the army since July 2024. From Sunday, 4 August 2024, the students had appealed for a 'civil disobedience' movement.

In this, people were appealed not to pay government taxes.

According to reports, thousands of protesters are pelting stones at the official residence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
