Speaking on India-Russia relations, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated that the foundation of the ties between the two nations has been strong since the 1950s.

At the 62nd Munich Security Conference, Jaishankar noted that the scope of India-Russia relations has expanded with the changing times.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said, "India and Russia have historically shared excellent relations, particularly since the 1950s. That history has not been forgotten... For us, the Soviet Union was a country that stood by us in many ways when our security and territorial integrity were under threat."

Without explicitly naming Pakistan, he remarked, "At a time when most countries in the world preferred to support a military regime in our neighborhood, Russia was a country with which we maintained very good relations."

Describing the Russia-Ukraine war as an "unfortunate conflict," he said, "Our stance on this conflict has been absolutely clear: we want to see it come to an end. This will require dialogue and diplomacy; talks are essential in this matter."

S. Jaishankar stated that India has engaged in discussions with both countries in an effort to bring the war to a halt.
