The Meghalaya Congress government has taken a big step against the Centre's decision to stop the procurement of animals for slaughter and passed the resolution in the assembly against the Centre's decision. This proposal was passed on Monday (June 12th) in the special session of the Meghalaya assembly.

Explain that on May 28 this year, the Central Government has issued a notification and has banned the purchase and sale of animals in animal mandis for slaughter. This decision of the centre is being linked to beef bans and this decision is being strongly opposed in many states including Meghalaya. Against this decision of the Centre, many leaders of the Meghalaya BJP have resigned.

Explain that on Monday, during the debate on this issue, the MLAs strongly objected to this decision of the Centre and the decision of the Centre was averse to the feelings of the people of the northeast.

Among the tribals in Meghalaya, beef has been the main part of food. The northeast people are very angry about this notification of the Centre. Against this decision of the Centre, BJP leaders of Meghalaya also blasted the rebellion against the party high command and resigned from the BJP. Among those who resigned from the BJP, Bachu Marak and Bernard Marak said that the Central Government is playing with tribal Asmita.

The BJP government of the Centre is facing protests in North-east as well as in the South part of the country. This notification was also challenged in the Madras High Court, after which the Madurai Bench of the court has stayed the notification for the centre for the week.

Here the central government says that its intention is not to curb people's eating habits, but to stop the smuggling of cows and other animals, as well as to stop the torture of animals in the name of cow slaughter. Under this notification of the Center, licensed slaughterhouses will have to purchase animals directly to the farmers for the slaughter. Animal owners will not even be able to sell their animals for slaughter in the market.
