The BJP, trying to make roots in the northeastern states of India, has suffered a setback. Five thousand BJP workers in the north-east Meghalaya have resigned from the party.

These BJP workers were very angry with the ban on the purchase of animals for the execution. These workers said that they can not tolerate any kind of tampering with their culture and local people's feelings.

In Meghalaya, two senior BJP leaders Bachu Marak and Bernard Marak also resigned from the BJP on this issue.

Vilvar Greham Dango, President of BJP Youth Wing of Tura district, said that it is opposed to the efforts of the NDA government, under which the government is trying to suppress the tribal and other groups who eat beef.

Vilver Greham Dango has also left the party in protest of the Centre's decision. He said that five BJP boards have been merged and more than 5000 party workers have resigned.

Dango says that we can not mess with the feelings of our own people, these people believe in us.

According to Dango, BJP is mixing religion and politics, but we can not see this happening.

On May 28, the centre's BJP government has banned the purchase and sale of animals from animals markets for slaughter. The Centre has issued notification, though the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has stayed the decision of the Centre. But the Centre has remained firm on its stand and challenging this decision in the Supreme Court. This decision of the Centre is being opposed in the northeast, Tamilnadu, Kerala and West Bengal.

The BJP leaders of Meghalaya said that any party or person who will hurt the feelings of our people is against us, we will protect our tribal land and interests.

Many other party leaders have also opposed this policy of BJP and threatened to leave the party in the event of the abrogation of this law.
