In Darjeeling, West Bengal, the army had to call on Thursday (June 8th). This condition was born in the mountainous region of West Bengal when the agitators of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) gave many vehicles to the fire.
In addition to this, he also carried stones at the police personnel who used tear gas balls to stop the movement. GJM activists attacked the police against bottles and stones. Given the crowd of thousands of agitators, the administration had to call the army.
This violence spread near Bhanu Bhawan, where supporters of GJM organized a rally to pressurize the demand for a separate state for the Gurkhas.
The special thing is that, where the violence spread, only 500 metres from there, CM Mamta Banerjee was cabinet meeting with her two dozen ministers. Mamta Banerjee has held a Cabinet meeting for the first time in Darjeeling after 45 years.
After assuming power in West Bengal in 2011, Mamta Banerjee has called armed forces for the first time to control any event. GJM activists announced this movement when last week Mamata Banerjee announced the mandatory teaching of Bengali language in schools in West Bengal till tenth standard.
This announcement of Mamta Banerjee was a strong protest. On Thursday, as Mamata Banerjee came out of the Cabinet meeting in Darjeeling, protesters started sloganeering and wanted to burn CM's effigy, but when the police wanted to stop the people, the protesters got furious and began to stone throwing them, the police to prevent people, they used to carry sticks and left tear gas shells.
Given the seriousness of the incident, the administration has stopped broadcasting local channels. Here, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has announced an indefinite strike against the Bengali language education mandatory. CM Mamta Banerjee has also convened a meeting in view of the situation.
