Wednesday, 7 August 2024
Bangladesh's new Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Moinul Islam has expressed regret for the role of the police in the recent anti-reservation student movements.
Mohammad Moinul has promised a fair investigation into all the incidents.
IGP Moinul Islam said, "In the current anti-reservation movement, our officers did not perform their duties as expected. On behalf of Bangladesh Police, I, as the Chief of Police, apologize to everyone."
The new IGP of Bangladesh Police also believes that some police officers are also responsible for the incidents that took place during the movement.
Moinul Islam said, "Human rights violations have taken place because some of our irresponsible officers did not do their job properly. Due to the failure of leadership, many of our colleagues have been injured and many have been killed.''
Moinul Islam said that action will be taken against all of them on the basis of police rules and other laws. We are committed to a fair investigation of every murder. We are trying to restore peace in the country.
Moinul Islam has directed all police units including police officers and personnel, i.e. Rajbagh Police Lines, POM, APBN, all metropolitan and district police lines to return to duty by the evening of Thursday, August 8, 2024.
Apart from this, Metropolitan Police Commissioners and District Superintendents of Police have been asked to form civil security committees in their respective areas by including senior citizens, professionals, student representatives, political and media persons.
