Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abdul Momin and Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan have canceled their visit to India.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abdul Momin was scheduled to visit India on his two-day visit from 12 to 14 December. At the same time, Asaduzzaman Khan was to come to India on December 13 under a pre-determined schedule.
Sources in the Bangladesh High Commissioner told the BBC that Home Minister Asaduzzamman Khan's visit had also been canceled. Their schedule was pre-planned, although no reason for cancellation of the trip has been given.
News agency PTI and ANI quoted this to diplomatic sources.
However, according to news agency ANI, Foreign Minister Abdul Momin has said the reason for canceling his visit is the internal situation in the country.
ANI was quoted as saying by Momin, "I was supposed to participate in the intellectuals' Debosh and Victory Day events happening in Delhi, but our Minister of State is in Madrid and the Foreign Secretary in The Hague. In such a situation, I have to cancel my trip. ''
Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ravish Kumar said, "We know that the Bangladesh Foreign Minister has canceled the visit." He has also given the reason for his absence. We should accept their point. As far as the relationship between the two countries is concerned, they are strong. I do not think there will be any difference in the relationship between the two countries. ''
When asked Ravish Kumar about Momin's response to Amit Shah's statement, he said, "There is confusion about the Bangladesh Foreign Minister's comment about the cab." What we have said about minorities in Bangladesh was asked for military rule. This is not a comment on the current government.
Earlier, Momin has protested against the statement of the Union Home Minister of India Amit Shah regarding the Citizen Amendment Bill.
Amit Shah had said that Hindus are being persecuted in Bangladesh.
To this Momin said, "What they are saying about the persecution of Hindus is non-essential and false. There are few countries in the world where there is communal harmony like Bangladesh. We do not have any minority here. we are all equal. As a neighboring country, we hope that India will not do anything that would spoil our friendly relations. This issue has come up before us recently. We will read it carefully and then raise this issue with India. ''
Momin had said that India's secular stand would be weakened by this law of citizenship on the basis of religion.
Earlier, there were reports in the media that a meeting in Guwahati between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi could be deferred or the place of meeting could be changed.
Shinzo Abe and Modi are scheduled to meet in Guwahati on 15 and 16 December.
Ravish Kumar said about Shinzo Abe's visit to India, "The truth is that at the moment I do not have any updates in this matter."
