When the member countries agreed on a joint statement in the G-20 conference held in India, it was seen as a major achievement.

On Saturday, September 9, 2023, the very first day of the G-20 conference, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the consensus among all the countries on the joint statement and thanked everyone for this success.

This announcement was completely contrary to the speculations being made before the start of the conference.

It was believed that the joint statement had reduced the chances of reaching a consensus amid the Ukraine-Russia war. But when all the countries agreed on the joint statement, there was a reaction from Ukraine as well as Russia.

"The joint statement was balanced and the talks on Ukraine remained very difficult," said Russian Sherpa Svetlana Lukash.

“It took 20 days before the start of the conference and five days on the ground to agree on this joint statement,” Lukash said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had decided not to attend this conference. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov participated in this conference.

The New Delhi Declaration of the G-20, issued unanimously on Saturday, September 9, 2023, in New Delhi, mentioned the ongoing war in Ukraine but did not criticize Russia.

There are seven paragraphs in this manifesto on Ukraine war but there is no mention of Russia even at one place.

Ukraine has responded to this and said, "There is nothing to be proud of in Russia's statement on war."
