The Indian Foreign Ministry has reacted to the news of the closure of Afghanistan's embassy in Delhi on the evening of Thursday, October 5, 2023. This response has come after four days.
During the weekly press briefing, India's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that India will continue its efforts to help the citizens of Afghanistan.
The Afghan Embassy had announced the closure of the embassy and blamed it on India's lack of diplomatic support and failure to serve Afghan interests.
Arindam Bagchi has said that the Afghan Consulates of Mumbai and Hyderabad have expressed disagreement with the announcement of the Afghan Embassy.
Arindam Bagchi acknowledged that Afghanistan has not had an ambassador to India for a long time and many Afghan diplomats have left India in recent times.
He said that despite this, the large number of Afghan citizens and students present in India will continue to get the necessary counseling support.
Bagchi said, 'Our understanding is that the embassy in New Delhi is functioning and will continue to function. We are in touch with the Afghan diplomats present in the Delhi Embassy and the diplomats present in the Consulates of Mumbai and Hyderabad.'
