Voting began from eight o'clock in the morning for the By-election of Radhakrishnan Nagar (RK Nagar) in Tamil Nadu. More than two lakh voters in this constituency will decide the fate of 59 candidates.
This seat was vacant after the demise of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha. The counting will take place on December 24.
The main candidate for this seat is the main contest between AIADMK's E Madhusudanan, DMK's N Marudhu Ganesh, an Independent candidate Dinakaran and Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate K Nagarajan.
The security arrangements have been made during this period. 15 companies of the Armed Forces and more than 2,500 security forces have been deployed. Along with this, many CCTV cameras, flying squads and surveillance teams have also been upgraded. However, the bye-elections on this seat were to be held earlier in April, but it was canceled after a candidate complained of bribing voters at large level.
Chennai Police Commissioner AK Vishwanathan has said that he has made arrangements for free and fair polling, additional security forces have been deployed in sensitive places.
