Various organizations of the country protested after the suicide of Dalit girl S. Anitha of Ariyalur district of Tamil Nadu, who filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test, ie Neet in India.
According to The Hindu, Anitha committed suicide by hanging in her house in Kuzumur village. Anitha, 17, a daily laborer daughter, received 1176 out of 1200 marks in the 12th examination of the Tamil Nadu State Board. On the basis of which she got admission in MBBS, but this was not possible because of a Neet examination. Anita received only 86 numbers in the examination of Neet.
It is worth mentioning that till last year, in Tamil Nadu, the medical college was admitted on the basis of the marks obtained in XII. Although the conduct of the Neet examination was conducted by the central government last year, but then Tamil Nadu was exempted from it. This year too the Tamil Nadu government had tried to get out of the fair by bringing an ordinance, but on August 22, the Supreme Court dismissed it.
The Supreme Court had directed the Tamil Nadu Government to conduct medical counseling under the Neet for enrollment in MBBS and BDS courses in Tamilnadu.
The Supreme Court had said that the counseling process should be completed by September 4. After this the Center also said that Tamil Nadu can not be exempted in this case.
With this initiative, the central government had told Tamil Nadu to give relief on this. The Center had said that the government could consider this kind of request for only one year but later the Center withdrew from its statement.
Tell that Neet is organized for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in Medical and Dental Colleges. Through this examination, admission in colleges which are operated by the Medical Council of India and the Detal Council of India.
