UN implemented the most important Article 99 in Gaza, said- Gaza will never be the same as before

Thursday, 7 December 2023

United Nations (UN) Chief Antonio Guterres has invoked Article 99 of the UN Charter in view of the seriousness of the ongoing war in Gaza.

This article is considered the most important provision of the United Nations. Under which the Secretary-General of the United Nations "brings to the attention of the Security Council any matter which in his opinion may endanger international peace and security."

This is considered the most powerful provision of the United Nations Charter.

This article has been used only nine times in the history of the United Nations and has not been used for decades.

The United Nations has been warning for weeks about the humanitarian catastrophe being caused by the war in Gaza and appealing for it to be stopped, but now on Wednesday, 6 December 2023, Antonio Guterres issued one of his most powerful distress signals. Has been implemented so that the attention of member countries can be focused on this crisis and humanitarian ceasefire can be implemented.

Most of the members of the UN Council are in support of the ceasefire but America, which is a close ally of Israel and has a veto in the UN, is not in support of this ceasefire.

Antonio Guterres wrote to council members that "everyone living in Gaza is living in grave danger because no place in Gaza is safe anymore".

He also wrote that the entire health system of Gaza has collapsed because hospitals have been turned into battlefields.

People do not even have the necessities to survive and amidst all this Israel is continuously bombing.

Antonio Guterres says that Gaza's public order will be completely destroyed.

The UN says that considering the kind of devastation taking place in Gaza, it seems very difficult that Gaza will ever go back to the way it was before.

Antonio Guterres concluded his letter by writing that the international community has a responsibility to "use all its influence to prevent and end this crisis from worsening" and reiterated his call for a humanitarian ceasefire.

People are dying in Gaza, India should stand with what is right: Priyanka Gandhi

Thursday, 7 December 2023

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi has said that Israel is continuously bombing Gaza in a barbaric manner, India is a part of the international community and hence it should stand up for what is right.

Priyanka Gandhi wrote on Thursday, December 7, 2023, that India has always stood for justice and the long struggle of the Palestinians and their freedom. He should do the same even now.

Priyanka Gandhi wrote, "Gaza is being mercilessly bombed. Today the situation is worse than before the ceasefire. Food supplies are hard to come by, medical facilities have been destroyed and basic amenities are nonexistent. An entire country is being wiped out. 16,000 people have died, including 10,000 children. More than 60 journalists have died. These people are being killed in front of our eyes, where is the humanity?''

''India has always stood for what is right on the international stage. We fought for sanctions against South Africa's apartheid regime, we supported our brothers and sisters in Palestine from the beginning in their long struggle for freedom, and now we are doing nothing while genocide is taking place. As a member of the international community, India has a duty to stand for what is right. “We must do whatever we can to bring about a ceasefire.”

Thursday, 7 December 2023

Israel's Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan has expressed strong displeasure over the ceasefire appeal made by the Secretary General of the United Nations.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres had appealed to Israel for a ceasefire on humanitarian grounds. Israel has expressed displeasure over this and demanded his resignation.

Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, said: "Today the Secretary-General reached a new level of moral degradation."

Gilad Erdan said, "The attitude of the UN Secretary General is only to prolong the war in Gaza because it will give Hamas terrorists hope that the war will stop and they will be able to escape."

Israel-Gaza war: On allegations of bias, UN said, we have only one side and that is to save people's lives

Thursday, 7 December 2023

The United Nations has rejected accusations of being partisan in the Israel-Gaza conflict, insisting that it has 'only one side and that is to save lives'.

On Wednesday, 6 December 2023, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres wrote a letter to the members of the Security Council, in which he talked about using an article of the United Nations which has not been used in decades. He appealed to the Security Council to help avert a major humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Israel accused him of stooping further and said it showed he was being partisan.

Speaking on a BBC Radio 4 programme, Antonio Guterres's spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, said it was rare for the secretary-general to call for an article but that he had no other option because "human suffering" had crossed the limits.

Israel's military says its troops are fighting Hamas fighters in Khan Yunis, the main city in southern Gaza.

Israel's army claims that a big leader of Hamas is hiding here.

Israel has also agreed to slightly increase fuel supplies to southern Gaza following international pressure over the plight of Gaza's people due to continuous bombing.

On the night of Wednesday, 6 December 2023, Israeli ministers approved the entry of more fuel into Gaza.

BBC's Middle East correspondent Yolande Nel said that Israel's army has reached the center of Khan Yunis.

On the other hand, the armed wing of Hamas says that the fighting is becoming fierce. Whereas the Israeli army has now reached the house of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in Gaza.

He and other top officials are believed to be hiding in underground tunnels. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that capturing the Hamas leader is only a matter of time.

On the other hand, a senior UN official has warned that two months into the war, "the situation in Gaza is becoming catastrophic, as the fighting escalates, with hundreds of thousands of people trapped in a small area in the south". "Meaningful human efforts" have now become almost impossible.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has asked the Security Council, using the power given by the UN Charter, to take action on the Gaza war.

So far the Security Council has failed to support any resolution calling for a complete ceasefire.
