In India, statements by Union Ministers of State Satyapal Singh have been strongly opposed by many Hindu leaders. In this sequence, Mahant Rajkumar Das has said in two words that neither will the ash flowing in the Ganga nor pouring the bones.

He said that the incarnation of Mother Ganga on earth is only for human welfare. Mahant Das said that if the governments want to clean the Ganges, then they should first stop dirt draining into the Ganges. He refused to accept the arguments of the Union Minister that the Ganga is unclean due to putting the a garland of flowers and pooja material.

Let us state that on Tuesday (December 19th) Union Minister of State for Water Resources and River Development, Satyapal Singh had appealed to people in a program of 'Namami Gange Project' at Haridwar that people rather than let the bones flow in the Ganges, place them in one place on the ground and plant the plants on it. He appealed to not flowing the ashes and flowers of Pooja even in the Ganges after the funeral.

On the appeal of the minister, leaders and activists associated with several Hindu organizations have expressed objection.

Significantly, in the Hindu tradition, the Ganga is considered to be a very sacred river. This is the reason that after the last rites of the people, their bones are flown in (Ashes) Ganga.

However, some religious leaders have also supported the minister's appeal. Mahant Girishapati Tripathi has termed this appeal of the Union Minister as meaningful and said that people should have a habit of changing some things in the changing phase. In this way, Sadhus and Saints are also being divided on this issue.
