On Monday (July 31, 2017) to file an income tax return for the fiscal year 2016-17, there was no proposal to give any kind of relaxation. That is, if you do not file income tax on Monday then then you will not be able to pay income tax. But the government has given extension to filing income tax returns on Monday (July 31, 2017) in the latest statement.

Under an official statement, the income tax return for the financial year 2016-17 will be filed till August 5 (2017).

Significantly, more than two crore people have already filed their returns in the Income Tax Department. Earlier, a senior official had said that the last date for filing income-tax returns is July 31. There is no proposal to increase it.

The Income Tax Department has already filed more than 2 crore returns in electronic form. The Department appealed to taxpayers to file returns on time. On the e-filing website, the official said that there was no major problem on the website of the department, only for some time the disruption was noticed due to maintenance. For some time there was a problem in the e-filing website http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/, when the services of the portal were interrupted for maintenance.

A few days ago, on behalf of the department, after issuing advertisements in all major national newspapers in India, tax payers had asked to file their correct income and ITR before July 31 or earlier.

For information, tell that linking of Aadhaar number with PAN Card has also been made mandatory for the taxpayers to fill Income Tax Return (ITR) from July 1. During the notes ban from the taxpayers in the ITR, the department has sought information on depositing cash of Rs 2 lakh or more in banks between November 9 and December 30 last year.
