Expressing concern over the attack on Christians in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, India's top Catholic community said that polarization of India is being done due to religious affiliation. He said that Christian community is losing their faith in the Modi government.
In the interview given to the Indian Express, Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos, President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) said that the way the clerics were attacked in Satna and the state government arrested the poor and the innocent instead of finding criminals, The belief in is decreasing.
He said that such incidents can happen in large countries, but how will you assess the strength of the government and its stand? Legal action and security only matter.
Cardinal said, "The country is being divided on the basis of religion, it is not right for the democratic country. I want the country to be united in the thread of secularism. But now the polarization of India is being done due to religious affiliation. We should fight against it."
Last week in India, 30 priests and seminarians were taken into custody for carol songs in a village near Satna in Madhya Pradesh. The Bajrang Dal accused them of forcibly converted the villagers. A cleric was also arrested under the anti-conversion law of Madhya Pradesh.
On Wednesday, the CBCI delegation led by Cardinal met with India's Home Minister Rajnath Singh and expressed their pain. At the same time, there is an appeal to get justice. Meanwhile, Union Minister Alfonz and Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha PJ Kurien were also present.
Cardinal said that the Home Minister's stand was positive and they assured to take action soon. I hope he will do his best.
