The cost of the Bateshwar Sthan Ganga Pump Canal Scheme in Bihar was Rs. 8 crores; Rs. 390 crores has been spent to make it, yet there is no water in the canal. It is to be mentioned that on 20th September 2017, the inauguration of Bateshwar Sthan Ganga Pump Canal was to be inaugurated, but on the evening of 19th September, the canal wall was broken and the inauguration was postponed. 389.36 crore has been spent on this scheme. Work is going on the canal since 1977. At that time, its cost was estimated at 8 crores. This canal will be irrigated in Kahalgaon area of Bhagalpur district of Bihar and Godda district of Jharkhand.

The length of the canal is about 100 kilometers. At present, 11 km canal is built in Bihar. There is no canal in Jharkhand so far. In spite of this, Pump House button will be pressed in the inaugaration, but water will not be left in the canal during the inauguration.

The water resources department and the district administration are not willing to take any risk. From the last four days, a trial of releasing of the water in the canal is also being done by pressing the pump button, but there are leakages in many places in the canal. In places where complaints of leakage have surfaced. There, Arun Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary, Water Resources Department, reached by the helicopter and took stock of the situation. Only after getting the green signal from the principal secretary, it was decided to inaugurate from the Chief Minister Nitish by pressing the button of the pump.
