The interim president of the Congress Party in India, Sonia Gandhi, has said that the central government's attitude on the economic package has become a cruel joke.
"Every well-known economist had suggested the urgent need for large scale financial stimulus," Sonia Gandhi said in a meeting with leaders of 22 opposition parties through videoconferencing today. The announcement of the package of 20 lakh crores by the Prime Minister and the information given by the Finance Minister for the next 5 days became a cruel joke.
Opposition parties demand, government give Rs 7,500 per month to poor families for six months
The 22 opposition parties of India, after discussion among themselves, have placed 11 demands before the Modi government at the center, the first of which is the demand of giving cash money to poor families for six months.
It said that all the families coming out of income tax should be given Rs 7,500 per month for six months.
The parties have suggested that 10,000 rupees be given first and after that in five months this amount should be passed on to the workers' families in equal installments.
On Friday, in a video-based meeting on the invitation of the interim president of Congress, Sonia Gandhi, the Central Government's economic package was described as inadequate and demanded a review.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also attended the meeting.
However, two major parties of Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, did not join it.
