In India, the Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered a probe into the conversion of a Hindu girl in Kerala from National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday. Judge of the Supreme Court Justice R.V. Ravindran will monitor the investigation.
The bench, comprising Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar and Justice DY Chandchud, ordered an inquiry into the matter and asked for the girl's presence in the court before taking a final decision.
The bench said that the court will decide the matter only after taking the details of NIA, Kerala Government and all others in this matter.
The court gave this order after petitioner Shafin Jahan, the lawyer of Kapil Sibal, saying that the court should take a decision only after talking to the girl.
The Kerala High Court had canceled the marriage of Shafin Jahan, the girl who converted the religion. The petitioner Shafin Jahan has challenged the verdict of the High Court in the apex court.
Senior Advocate Indira Jaising said to the bench that this is an inter-religious matter, therefore the court should take precautions in it.
