Suicidal Attack in Pakistan's Lahore, 25 killed

25 people including policemen were killed and 30 others injured in a powerful suicide bomber near the housing co-office of Punjab Provice Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Lahore city of Pakistan.

Diba Shahnaz of Rescue 1122 said, "The officers of the police and the Lahore Development Authority were busy in the encroachment outside the Arfa Karim Tower near the Chief Minister's Model Town residence when a powerful explosion occurred."

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is also the brother of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and was busy in the meeting at his Model Town office. According to Rescue 1122, at least 25 people including policemen were killed in the blast while more than 30 others were injured.

Earlier, Pakistan's Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan told the number 14 dead, but said the number of people who died could increase. The rescue teams carried the injured to the hospital. An emergency situation has been announced in the city hospitals. Shahnaz said, "The situation of many injured is said to be serious."

Lahore Police Chief Captain (Retired) Amin Vance confirmed that this was a suicide attack and police was on target. Citing police sources, Geo News said that a suicide bomber targeted the policemen posted on the spot. The heavy troop of security forces surrounded the area and the section of the road has been sealed. No group of explosions has taken responsibility. There have been many terrorist attacks in recent years in Pakistan's cultural capital, Lahore.
