Hanan Elatra, wife of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed in the Saudi Arabian Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, has got political asylum in America.
The US intelligence agency has believed that Saudi Arabia was behind the murder of Jamal Khashoggi in October 2018.
Khashoggi's wife, Hanan Elatra, feared for her safety and came to the United States in August 2020 on a work permit to seek asylum.
The BBC reviewed documents which show that Khashoggi's wife, Hanan Elatra, has been granted indefinite asylum on 28 November 2023.
"We won," Elatra told the BBC. "Yes, they took Jamal's life and they ruined my life, but we won."
It has been more than three years since Hanan Elatra first applied for political asylum in the United States.
Hanan Elatra has said that if she were to return to Egypt (where she lives) or the United Arab Emirates, her home of 25 years, her life would be in danger.
Hanan Elatra, a former flight attendant at Emirates Airline, says that when she came to America, she remained afraid for her safety for several months. At first she lived in Maryland.
In an interview, Hanan Elatr's lawyer, Randa Fahmy, said that Khashoggi's wife, Hanan Elatr, left both her job and her life.
Khashoggi's wife Hanan Elatra finally got a work permit in America in October 2021. Hanan Elatra now has a job and an apartment.
