In Daman and Diu, BJP has suffered a lot after the defeat in the Diu municipal elections. Five people, including Diu District Panchayat Chairperson, got separated from BJP in the beginning of this week. Following this mass resignation, the power of the BJP's district panchayat has suffered a setback.
On this, BJP state chief Gopal Tandel says that the resignation of any BJP leader has not been accepted at the moment, but the matter will be resolved soon. Deputy District Panchayat President Shashikant Solanki along with Vice-President Ashwini Bamania and Zilla Panchayat members Pooja Panjani, Dhaniben Solanki and Jantilal Somalal gave their resignation to Bipin Shah, District President, on Monday. Bipin Shah apprised the resignation of these people and sent it to Gopal Tandel. An hour later, Bipin Shah also took over the responsibility of the defeat of the panchayat elections, resigning from the post of the Diu Unit Chief.
In the beginning of this month, municipal elections were held in Diu, in which the Congress got its 10 seats out of 13 seats. In these elections, BJP had to be satisfied only with three seats. On the day the results of these elections came, the state Vice President Kirit Waza had resigned, taking responsibility for defeat.
During the interaction with the Indian Express, Shashikant Solanki said on Wednesday that the party wants to remove me from the President post of District Panchayat, while I candidly supported all the party's candidates in municipal elections. We can not be associated with BJP anymore, so we are going to join any other political party.
Speaking on this, State President Gopal Tandel said that the resignation of any person belonging to any district panchayat has not been approved nor the resignation of Bipin Shah and Kirit Waja has been approved. This matter will be discussed in the next meeting of the state and then only a decision will be taken regarding the resignation of these people.
In the Panchayat elections in 2015, BJP had won seven seats, while Congress did not have a single seat.
