Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for insulting the drought-affected farmers of Tamil Nadu and said that they are being disrespected by not talking to farmers on their demand for relief package.
He commented on Jantar Mantar, where the farmers of Tamil Nadu have been sitting on protest for 18 consecutive days. Rahul went to meet these farmers.
While addressing the Modi government as anti-poor and anti-farmer, Rahul said that the Prime Minister only cares about the demands of select group of industrialists.
He said, the farmers have been sitting here for a long time. But neither the government nor the Prime Minister is listening to them. People and farmers of Tamil Nadu should listen. The Prime Minister is not taking the initiative to talk to them and disrespect them.
Congress vice-president said, in the last three years, the debt of 50 industrialists Rs 1.4 lakh crore has been waived.
He said why is not being done with such farmers? Why is not the loan forgiven? It is the responsibility of the Prime Minister to do this.
The Congress Vice President interacted with the farmers sitting on the protest for 15 minutes and assured them that the Congress would fight for them.
