24 killed in arson at Awami League leader's hotel in Bangladesh

At least 24 people have died after a hotel in Bangladesh was set on fire. According to reports, the hotel was set on fire on Monday, August 5, 2024.

Zabir International Hotel was owned by a member close to the Awami League.

According to Bangladesh's daily newspaper 'Daily Star', it took 12 hours for the rescue team to control the fire.

According to the report of the newspaper 'Daily Star', the protesters did not allow the firefighters to reach the hotel for a long time, due to which the rescue operation started very late.

This hotel is in Jessore, a city in the south-west of Bangladesh. The owner of this hotel is Shahin Chakladar, who is the general secretary of the Awami League party of Jessore district.

Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has been the head of the Awami League party since the 1980s.

On Monday, August 5, 2024, Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister of Bangladesh after a long demonstration by the students. Sheikh Hasina has fled Bangladesh.

After that, the army had appealed to the students and the common people to maintain peace, but reports of violence, looting and arson are coming from different areas of Bangladesh.

BPSA has held the officers responsible for presenting the police as villains in front of the people.

BPSA, an organization of several thousand policemen in Bangladesh, has said, "The country makes the law and we only implement it. We have to follow the orders of our superiors, whether they are legal or illegal.''

Police say that more than 400 police stations were attacked across the country after Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday, August 5, 2024. Many policemen have also been killed in the protests in Bangladesh.

BPSA has apologized for the action taken against innocent students in its statement.

Former Bangladesh Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud detained at airport

Former Bangladesh Foreign Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Hasan Mahmud was detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Hasan Mahmud was trying to flee Bangladesh.

BBC Bangla has confirmed from airport sources that Hasan Mahmud was detained by the immigration police on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

A Bangladesh Airlines official on duty at the airport told BBC Bangla that Hasan Mahmud was handed over to the army at around 8.30 pm.

Earlier, former Bangladesh State Minister of Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak was also detained from the airport.

Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister of Bangladesh on Monday, 5 August 2024 after student agitation and violent protests in Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh and came to India.
