Breaking his silence on violence in different parts of India by the alleged cow guards, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that killing of people in the name of cow-worship can not be accepted. On the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's sage Shri Raj Chanderji, Modi said this while addressing the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad.

His remarks came in the backdrop of recent attacks by alleged cow guards and protests. In protest against the massacre of people by crowds, in many places in India yesterday, 'Not In My Name' was performed, in which thousands of people were involved.

Addressing the people present in Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Modi said, "There is no place for violence in society."

In the program organized on the completion of 100 years of the establishment of Sabarmati Ashram, the Prime Minister said, "The killing of people in the name of cow-worship will not be accepted." Mahatma Gandhi would have been against it today."

Modi said that nobody has talked about more cow protection than Mahatma Gandhi and Acharya Vinoba Bhave. They said, "Yes, it should be done. But our country is the land of non-violence. This is the land of Mahatma Gandhi. Why do we forget this?''

While referring to the increasing attacks on people in the name of cow-security, Modi said, "Today I want to say a few words and express my sadness on some things. Violence has never resolved any problem and neither will it be. No person in this country has the right to take law into his own hands."

Modi said, "Come, let us all work together and make India a dream of Mahatma Gandhi. We create an India on which our freedom fighters should be proud."

The Prime Minister, who arrived on a two-day visit to Gujarat, broke this silence of the silence of Modi and his government on the continuous violence by self-proclaimed cow guards in various parts of India, this statement on Thursday.
