Pakistan's former President General Pervez Musharraf has been sentenced to death by the Special Court of Islamabad in a sedition case.

Musharraf is not currently in Pakistan and is undergoing treatment in Dubai. A few days ago, Musharraf released a video citing his poor health and said that the Commission of Inquiry should come to him and see how he is now.

On the lawsuit for violation of the constitution and serious treason, he said, "This matter is completely baseless in my view. Leave aside the point of treason, I have served this country a lot, fought wars and served the country for ten years.''

The three-member bench of the special court gave the verdict by a majority.

While releasing the video, Musharraf said that he was not being heard in the case of violation of the constitution.

He had said, "The court is not even listening to my lawyer Salman Safdar. I think it is getting too much and I am not being judged."

He demanded that this commission be heard in the court and his lawyer should also be heard. He also said that he hoped justice would be done to him.

Akhtar Shah, a member of Musharraf's legal advisory team, told reporters outside the court, "This is very unfortunate. A man wants to come inside this country, but he (Pervez Musharraf) is not allowed to come. The government with him has excessively has.

This case against Musharraf was done by former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif when his party Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) came back to power in 2013.

After a six-year trial, Judge Waqar Seth pronounced the decision of a three-member special military court. One of the two judges opposed the death sentence decision.

Musharraf has attended the hearing only once when charges were framed against him.

Now they have 30 days to challenge the decision. But for this they will have to appear in court.

On 31 March 2014, the Special Court of Islamabad indicted former Pakistan Army Chief and President General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf in a sedition case.

He was the first person in the history of Pakistan against whom the Constitution was disobeyed.

Actually, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) came into government after victory in 2013 elections. After becoming Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif filed a lawsuit against former military president Pervez Musharraf for disobeying the constitution.

The four heads of the special court hearing a serious treason case against the former military president were changed.

Pervez Musharraf appeared before the Special Court only once when he was charged. He has never appeared in court since then.

Meanwhile, in March 2016, Musharraf went abroad citing health reasons. His name was removed from the Exit Control List by the then ruling party Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), after which he was allowed to leave the country.

General Pervez Musharraf took over Pakistan's power in October 1999 after a military coup.

In June of 2001, General Musharraf declared himself president while he was military chief.

In April 2002, Musharraf became president for a five-year term by holding a controversial referendum.

In October-November 2007, Musharraf again won the presidential election. But his election was challenged in the Supreme Court. He then imposed the Emergency in the country and appointed a new Chief Justice in place of Chief Justice Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary who sealed his election.

Musharraf resigned as President in August 2008. Due to the impeachment against him by the two main ruling parties, he decided to resign after concurrence.
