Pakistan has rejected India's Home Minister Amit Shah's claims that there has been a steady decline in the minority population.

During the debate on the Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Indian Parliament, Amit Shah said that in 1947, religious minorities were 23 percent of the total population of Pakistan, which decreased to 3.7 percent in 2011.

The Government of India has passed the Citizenship Amendment Bill from Parliament under which illegal non-Muslim immigrants from neighboring countries Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will be given citizenship.

The new law provides for citizenship among all migrants, except Muslims, among these migrants. The BJP government says that minorities have been tortured in these countries and their numbers are steadily decreasing.

Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Dr. Mohammad Faisal told the Pakistani newspaper The Express Tribune on Saturday that Amit Shah's claim did not match the historical facts and census results.

He said that the decrease in the population of non-Muslims in Pakistan is due to the formation of Bangladesh and that the persecution of non-Muslims in Pakistan is nothing but a lie.

Dr. Faisal said, "The white color in Pakistan's national flag is like green. The white color in our national flag indicates the minorities' participation in the country. The figure Amit Shah has told is from when Pakistan was not partitioned. ''

According to the Pakistani newspaper, there is no official data on how many minorities were in Pakistan at the time of Partition in 1947.

Although according to the 1951 census of Pakistan, the minority in the country was 14.20 percent but Bangladesh was not formed then.

Pakistan has a census based on religion in 2017 but its data has not yet been released.

According to the 1998 Pakistan census, the minority population of Pakistan was 3.7% of the total population.
