Terming the notes ban as the biggest scandal of the century, the opposition announced on Tuesday that the Opposition parties will celebrate the black day on November 8 and protest against in the whole country after the completion of one year of the verdict.
Due to the notes ban, the economy and jobs have been damaged. Addressing reporters on Tuesday , Ghulam Nabi Azad, Opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha, said that on November 8 last year Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the closure of 1,000 rupees and 500 rupees notes with practice. The Opposition then expressed fear that the condition of the economy would be bad, increase in unemployment and lower GDP due to the decision of the notes ban.
Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the previous Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who had expressed his apprehension of two percent reduction in GDP due to the notes ban, proved to be completely correct.
In a press conference with Ghulam Nabi Azad, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien and Janata Dal United's Sharad Yadav were also present.
Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the opposition parties work with mutual coordination within the Parliament. But on the last day of the last monsoon session it was decided to create a coordinating committee in the meeting of opposition leaders. Members of the Committee were given the responsibility to coordinate and negotiate with the leaders of various 18 parties during the two sessions period.
He said that this Coordination Committee had its first meeting on Wednesday. It was decided in this meeting that on November 8, all opposition parties celebrate black day in their own way.
Terming this decision of government as the biggest scam of the century, he said that after the announcement of the Prime Minister, the whole country came to the streets and people were forced to stand for hours in the lines.
Azad said that according to official statistics, 120 people were killed due to the notes ban, while according to unofficial figures, their number is 300-400. These include those people who have lost their lives in the heart attack while standing in line.
He said, the motive of the government for black money, forged currency and the prohibition of financing of terrorists, for which the decision was taken, none of them was fulfilled as 99 percent of the currency was returned. The remaining money has been deposited in the cooperative banks and the banks of neighboring countries.
Azad clarified that on November 8, 18 opposition parties, in the lead of the Congress, would oppose the decision of notes ban according to their programs and plans in their respective areas.
Trinamool leader Derek O'Brien said that his party chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had opposed the notes ban on November 8 last year. He said that whatever doubts were raised about the notes ban on behalf of the Trinamool, the government has not responded to any of them till date.
Ghulam Nabi Azad clarified that there will be a meeting of the Opposition Coordination Committee even before the coming session of Parliament.
