In India, the Supreme Court today refused to allow any of these 'no one' (NOTA) option in the Rajya Sabha elections.
According to the news agency Bhasha, the bench of Chief Justice Deepak Mishra, Justice AM Khanvilkar and Justice DY Chandchud canceled the notification of the Election Commission, allowing the option of NOTA in the ballot papers of the Rajya Sabha elections.
The Supreme Court raised the question of notification of the Election Commission and said that the NOTA has been made for the use of ordinary voters directly in the election. This decision came on the petition of Shailesh Manubhai Parmar. In the last Rajya Sabha elections, he was the chief whip of the Congress in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, in which the party had fielded the MP Ahmed Patel.
Explain that Parmar had challenged the notification of the Election Commission, allowing the option of the NOTA in the ballotts. The Supreme Court had earlier said that by introducing the NOTA, the EC is giving legitimacy to not voting.
The leader of the Gujarat Congress had said that if the provisions of the NOTA are approved in the Rajya Sabha elections, it will lead to Purchase and corruption.
