Manipur Governor and former Union Minister Nazma Heptullah has been appointed Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia.
Jamia's VC Talat Ahmad confirmed the news and said that she (Nazma) has been appointed for a term of 5 years. 77-year-old Nazma Heptullah will replace Lieutenant General (retire) MA Zaki, whose five-year term is being completed this year.
Talat Ahmad said, "The university will get the most benefit of their political and public experience. It will be a good thing to work with them."
Nazma Heptullah has been a member of the Rajya Sabha for five times and has also been responsible for deputy chairperson for 16 years.
Before becoming the Governor of Manipur, she used to be Minister of Minority Affairs in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Cabinet.
