In India, the Modi government has handed over the documents to the petitioners detailing the decision made in connection with purchase of 36 Rafale aircrafts according to the Supreme Court directive.
According to PTI, according to the documents, the procedure prescribed in Defense procurement process -2013 in the purchase of Rafale aircraft has been followed. The approval of the Defense Purchase Council for the aircraft was taken and the Indian team interacted with the French side.
According to PTI, documents have said that negotiations with the French side lasted almost a year and before the signing the agreement, the Cabinet Committee on Security Affairs was approved.
Significantly, the Supreme Court had sought details from the Central Government on purchasing 36 Rafale fighter aircraft from France during the October 31 hearing.
The Supreme Court had told the Modi Government that it should submit the details of the Rafale fighters within 10 days in closed envelopes.
Then on behalf of the Modi government, the Attorney General K. Venugopal had told the court that it would not be possible for the government to provide information of prices, because this information has not been given to the Parliament as well.
The court had told the Center that the information can be made public. Center share them with petitioners.
While hearing a petition to question the deal, the apex court had earlier ordered the central government to hand over the details related to the policy process on purchasing Rafale. But, the three-member bench, hearing the case under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, had made it clear that they are seeking information as information.
During the previous hearing, the Supreme Court has asked the Center not to issue notice to the Center on the decisions taken by the Government regarding the fighter aircraft Rafale deal, and details of the process of its purchase decision.
The court clarified that it does not want information related to price and technical details of the deal. The Supreme Court asked the Center to hand over the details of the decision process on Rafale to the sealed envelope. While hearing two petitions, the court made it clear that it should not be considered a formal notice.
The apex court was hearing two PILs, one of which it was demanded that the details of the agreements signed by India to purchase 36 fighter Rafale aircraft from France have been given. Whereas, in the second petition, there was a demand for the creation of a Special Investigation Team in the supervision of the apex court.
