Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mahbuba Mufti warned on Friday (July 28) that if any changes were made to the privileges of people of Jammu and Kashmir, there would be no one to catcher the tricolor in the state.
She said that on one side we talk of resolving the Kashmir issue within the ambit of the Constitution and on the other side we attack it. Mehbooba said in a program, ''Who is doing this. Why are they doing this (challenge to Article 35A) Let me tell you that despite my party and other parties who keep the national flag in Jammu and Kashmir in the hands, I have no doubt that if any change was made in this, then no one (National flag) would be able to catcher.''
She said, "Let me tell you clearly. By challenging all this (Article 35A), you are not targeting the separatists. They (separatists) have a different agenda and it is completely separatist.'' She said, ''Rather, you are weakening the powers which are Indian and believe in India and take part in elections, Fight to live with respect in Kashmir. This is one of the problems."
In the year 2014, an NGO filed a writ petition demanding to cancel of Article 35A. The matter is pending before the Supreme Court. Mehbuba said that Kashmir is India's hypothesis. She said, "The basic question is how much India's idea is ready to adjust the idea of Kashmir. It's basic squeezed."
She remembered how, despite being a Muslim majority state during partition, Kashmir violated divisive division of theory of two nations on the basis of religion and remained with India.
She said, "There is a special provision for Jammu and Kashmir in the Constitution of India. Unfortunately, with the passing of time, something happened that both parties started dishonesty.'' She pointed to the Center and the state that both sides may have become more greedy and the state has suffered in the last 70 years.
She said, "Instead of redressing the problem, we should take administrative steps like sacking the government or accusing them of conspiracy and sedition."
She said, "These administrative steps have not helped us to resolve the idea of Kashmir."
