Former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing his concern over the efforts and changes in the nature of the 'Nehru Memorial Museum and Library' (NMML), that Nehru's relationship was not only with Congress but also whole Was from the country.
In a letter to Modi, Manmohan Singh appealed to keep the Tin Mutri premises unchanged and said that it will honor both the history and the heritage.
'Nehru Memorial Museum & Library' (NMML) was set up in memory of the first Prime Minister of India and some of the rooms have been preserved in the museum at Tin Mutri House, just as they were at the time of Nehru's demise.
Manmohan Singh said that during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, no attempt was made to change the nature of NMML.
The senior Congress leader said that former Prime Minister Vajpayee had said that Nehru was a 'lively persona' in Parliament, "no such idol can ever be glorious."
Manmohan Singh said in the letter, "We respect this feeling and keep the Tin Mutri the museum of the first Prime Minister Pandit Nehru and let the Tin Mutri premises remain the same. By doing so, we will respect both history and heritage."
He said, "Jawaharlal Nehru belongs to the whole country ... not only of the Congress. With this feeling I have written this letter to you."
Manmohan has written this letter to Modi in connection with the news of NMML being dedicated to all the former Prime Ministers. The Congress is also strongly criticizing this idea.
