Karnataka: Kumaraswamy sworn in as chief minister

Kumaraswamy took oath today as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. Many top leaders were present on this occasion. Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala gave Kumaraswamy the oath of office and secrecy at a grand ceremony in the Vidhan Sabha Assembly premises. Vala administered oath to the state Congress President and Dalit leader G Parameshwar as a Deputy Chief Minister.

Congress leader, Parameshwar took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister. Both leaders took oath in the name of God, farmer and the people of southern state in Kannada. After proving the majority on Friday on behalf of Kumaraswamy, other members will be included in the Council of Ministers.

Kumaraswamy, wearing traditional dhoti and white shirt, took oath in the name of the God and the people of Kannada Nadu. On this occasion, the chief ministers of non-BJP ruled states including national and regional leaders were present.

Among the political figures were the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, BSP Supremo Mayawati, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, Sharad Yadav suspended from Janta Dal United, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, NCP leader Sharad Pawar and Bihar opposition leader Tejasvi Yadav were present.

The Chief Ministers include Mamta Banerjee (West Bengal), N. Chandrababu Naidu (Andhra Pradesh), Pinarai Vijayan (Kerala) were also present in the swearing-in ceremony. Thousands of Congress and JDS supporters were present at the venue from the entire state, especially from the Mysore region.
