Justice Karnam of Calcutta High Court has sentenced six other judges of the Supreme Court including Chief Justice JS Kher to five years of rigorous imprisonment. The judge has given this decision on all the conviction under Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Justice Karnam himself is accused of insulting the judiciary and insulting the court over accusing him of corruption against the Supreme Court judges.

The bench of the Supreme Court had rejected his petition to continue his judicial duties, saying that the High Court Judge is not as good at mental.

The apex court also issued a bailable warrant against Karnam on March 17.

On 2 May, Justice Karnam issued the Suo Moto Order using Article 226 of the Constitution.

After summoning the CJI and 6 other judges, they did not appear before Justice Karnam, they issued non-bailable warrants and issued an order to appear again on May 8.

On Monday, when the Supreme Court Judge was not present, Justice Karnam convicted it as a contempt of court and pronounced a sentence of 5 years for all 7 judges.

In its order on May 1, the Supreme Court had ordered the setting up of a medical board to investigate the mental health of Justice Karnam.

Apart from this, the apex court had told all the institutions of India that they should not accept the orders given by Justice Karnam from 8th February to 1st May. The apex court had given Justice Karnam an opportunity to keep his side, but he did not appear in the proceedings.
