Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram said that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the invincible coalition of Opposition parties could be made to defeat the BJP and free India from the rule of fear. However, Chidambaram did not give a direct answer to the question of who would be the claimant for the Prime Minister's post in the coalition.

According to the News Agency Bhasha, he said that it would be hasty to ask. He said that we must first form the coalition and make the elections. You want to know the answer before writing the script.

Former Finance Minister Chidambaram said that the most important question that all the opposition parties are unanimously is that the BJP should be defeated.

Chidambaram said in an interview to PTI that on this subject there is uniformity in ideas in many states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Bihar etc. This uniformity will bring opposition parties together and create the state wise alliance. He said that for the first time we are seeing the feeling of fear in the big class of the people in the country.

Chidambaram said, Dalits live in fear, Muslims live in fear, women live in fear, press is in fear.

They said, we are moving away from acceptable democratic rights and democratic positions. This is a dangerous trend for the country. We wanted freedom (from the British) because we wanted to live without fear and today the bigger section of the country is living in fear and it has to be eliminated. Will the Congress adopt a Karnataka-based model in the coalition with Opposition where it has given the Chief Minister's post to the JDS even after being the largest party, the former Finance Minister said that it is too early to say anything about this.

When asked about the reports that some parties like the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and Trinamool Congress were not comfortable in giving the coalition's leadership to the Congress, Chidambaram said that it would be ok to wait till the elections.
