Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abdul Momen has said that Indian citizens are coming to Bangladesh for a good economy and free food.
Momen also said that relations between the two countries are better and closer.
Momen said, "People of India are coming to Bangladesh because our situation is very good. The state of our economy is strong. Those coming here are getting jobs. The marginalized get free food here.''
Momen said that those Indians living illegally in Bangladesh would be sent back. The Bangladesh Foreign Minister was asked by reporters that Indians were entering Bangladesh.
Momen said, "Indians are attracted to Bangladesh for the same reasons. Our economy is better than India. Indians are not getting jobs that is why they are coming to Bangladesh. Some middlemen explain to the poor of India that the poor of India will get free food in Bangladesh.''
Bangladesh Foreign Minister said, "I have told India that if any Bangladeshi is living there illegally, then tell us we will call back."
Momen held a meeting with the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka on Sunday and spoke on bilateral issues.
He also spoke to the Indian High Commissioner on NRC. When asked about the relationship between Bangladesh and India, Momen said, "Our relations are very good. There is nothing to be disappointed in this situation. The citizens of Bangladesh have the right to return to their country.''
Momen refused to comment on the question asked to cancel the tour of India. He also declined to comment on India's new citizenship law.
Momen also said that his absence from India would not affect the relationship between the two countries.
On the charge of atrocities on minorities in Bangladesh, Momen said, "There is no oppression of minorities in our government in Bangladesh. Yes, it is true that during the tenure of military rule and other governments, minorities have suffered at a small level. In 2001, along with minorities, our party workers have also been oppressed.''
Foreign Minister Momen also said that some political parties of India are taking the name of Bangladesh in NRC for their own interest.
Bangladesh's opposition party BNP is also raising the issue of NRC and new citizenship law in India. Bangladesh's main opposition party, Bangladesh National Party general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, has said that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state of Assam in India threatens Bangladesh's independence and sovereignty.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the BNP leader said this to reporters at an event in Mirpur.
Islam Alamgir said, "We have been saying from the beginning that we are concerned about NRC in India. We feel that Bangladesh's independence and sovereignty from the NRC in India is at risk.'' Along with Alamgir, many other big leaders of the party were present.
He said that NRC will destabilize the entire subcontinent, not just Bangladesh. Alamgir said, "NRC will promote conflict and violence in this subcontinent."
The senior BNP leader said that the main objective of NRC is to establish communal politics by destroying liberal and secular politics. Alamgir said that his party president Khalida Zia was 'tortured' by Pakistani security forces during the liberation struggle.
Referring to NRC, the BNP leader also targeted the current Hasina government of Bangladesh.
He said, "The current government has destroyed the dreams of the freedom fighters of Bangladesh and the core spirit of the Muktasangram, along with the end of democracy. The government has ended all our achievements as a country. We have lost our democracy and our rights.''
