Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the notes ban in India, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said on Saturday that if he is pressurized for this action as a finance minister, he would resign.
He also targeted Modi on the speedy implementation of GST and the bullet train project. Chidambaram told reporters, "If my Prime Minister told me to make the notes ban, I would advise him not to do so and if he insisted on it then I would resign."
Advocating the GST rate up to 18 per cent, the former Finance Minister said that there should not be many rates of GST.
Speaking about the Gujarat model of development, Chidambaram said, "Vikas has gone mad". He criticized the Election Commission for not announcing the election programs of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh together.
It is notable that only a few days ago, he posted a satirical post on social media Twitter. Chidambaram wrote that the Election Commission has authorized Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare the dates of the Gujarat elections and said that he will announce this in his last rally and will also tell us.
Congress leader Chidambaram had written in the second tweet that the EC will be remembered for its fact that its extended vacations gave the Gujarat government many freebies and time to make populist announcements.
