Just like traveling in India, passengers will have to be cautious when they carry more luggage than the limit in the train. The official said that in view of the frequent complaints regarding excessive baggage in train coaches, Indian Railways has decided to strictly implement its three-decade old 'Luggage permit rules'. Under this, passengers will have to pay a fine of six times as much as the fixed amount, if they carry more luggage.

According to the rules, passengers can take up to 40 kilograms of goods in the sleeper class and 35 kilograms of goods in the second class without extra payment and can carry 80 kg of sleeper class passengers and can carry 70 kilograms of second class passengers on pay extra in the parcel office. Additional goods are kept in the freight train.

Ved Prakash, information and publicity director of the Railway Board said, "If the passenger is found carrying more than the prescribed limit, the passenger will be paid six times more than the fixed amount. This step has been taken to ensure the convenience of the passengers and to deal with the crowds inside the coaches."

The official said that casual visits will be made to monitor the goods being carried by the passengers. To implement this rule strictly, Indian Railways have campaigned in all zones from June 1 to June 6.

What the Rule says:
 - If a passenger is traveling 500 kms with 80 kilograms of luggage, then he can book in a luxury van by paying Rs. 109 / - to the additional 40 kg of goods from the fixed limit. If he does not do it and gets caught then he will have to pay a penalty of 654 rupees.

Similarly, AC First Class passenger can take 70 kilograms of goods free of cost. Apart from this, the customs duty limit for them is 150 kilograms, but for this, they will have to pay extra 80 kilograms of goods.

- AC Two Tier passenger can take up to 50 kilograms of luggage free of charge. There is a maximum limit of 100 kilograms for them, but for this, they have to pay extra 50 kilograms of luggage from the limit.
