Hamas elects Yahya Sinwar as its top leader

Hamas has elected Yahya Sinwar as its new top leader after two days of long talks in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
Ismail Haniya was assassinated in Tehran, the capital of Iran. Israel is said to be behind Haniya's death.
Yahya Sinwar was working as a group leader in the Gaza Strip since 2017, now he has been elected as Hamas's top leader.
A Hamas official told the BBC that the Hamas leadership has unanimously elected Yahya Sinwar as its leader to lead the movement.
This announcement has been made amid rising tensions in the Middle East. Iran and its allies have spoken of retaliating after the death of Ismail Haniya.
Iran and its allies hold Israel responsible for the death of Ismail Haniya.
There has been no comment from Israel regarding the death of Ismail Haniya.
