Zakia Jafri has challenged in the Supreme Court to give clean chit to PM Narendra Modi in the Gujarat riot case in India. According to the ANI report, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear the case of Zakia, and the case will be heard on Monday.

Let us point out that when Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he was accused of constructing a 2002 Gujarat riots plan.

Zakia is the wife of former Congress MP Ehsaan Jafri, who was killed in the Gujarat riots.

In October 2017, the Gujarat High Court upheld the investigation of the Special Investigation Team, giving clean chit to 58 people including Narendra Modi. The petition has been filed by the Justice and Peace Foundation of Jakia Jafri and Teesta Setalvad, which has been formed as the basis of the SIT constituted by the Supreme Court and the Magistrate Court order reversing the closure report in 2002.

Ehsan Jafri and 68 others were killed by the mob during the Gujarat riots. The riots took place on February 28, 2002 in the Muslim dominated Gulberg Society of Ahmedabad. This riots took place after Godhra train massacre. In 2006, the police filed a case against Modi, some ministers and bureaucrats in the complaint of Zakia in this case.

Two years later, the Supreme Court had directed the state government to re-investigate some major riots, including the Gulberg Society issue.

On April 27, 2009, the Supreme Court asked SIT to take action on the complaint of Zakia In this case, SIT questioned Modi in March 2012 and filed closure report a year later. The closure report said that no substantial evidence was found against Modi.
