India has come at number 102 in the list of 117 countries in the Global Hunger Index. Being down in the Global Hunger Index means that people in India are not able to eat enough food, child mortality is high, children are not weight according to length and children are malnourished.

India is the third largest economy in Asia and the largest in South Asia but in the Global Hunger Index, India is also at the bottom of South Asia.

This means that the people of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal are ahead of Indians in terms of nutrition. India is also the lowest among BRICS countries in this case. Pakistan is at number 94, Bangladesh at number 88, Nepal at number 73 and Sri Lanka at number 66.

India was ranked number 95 in 2010 and peaked at 102nd in 2019. India was ranked 83rd in the GHI rankings in the year 2000 in 113 countries and in 117 countries, India was ranked 102nd in 2019.

Belarus, Ukraine, Turkey, Cuba and Kuwait topped the GHI ranks. Even the GHI ranks of countries such as Rwanda and Ethiopia have improved. The ranking of the GHI index produces Ireland's ad agency Concern Worldwide and the German organization Welt Hunger.
