Varanasi Commissioner Nitin Ramesh Gokarn has submitted his report to the government on the incident of lathi charge on girl students at Banaras Hindu University.
Divisional Commissioner Gokarn said, "Many people have come to him and have given the statement about how this incident happened."
Girl students of BHU were protesting against tampering.
They said, "According to the statement, the incident was there and the girl was tampered with.
Commissioner Gokarn said, "In this regard, information was given to the policemen deployed in the campus, but they did not take proper action. This led to resentment among the girls. At the same time, he did not get enough response from his demands."
Outside the BHU campus, students were sitting on the dharna in protest against tampering on Friday. After this, police lathicharged on Saturday evening.
After the violence and tension in BHU, the university administration declared it a day before the Dussehra holiday academic calendar.
