Firing between BSF-BGB on Indo-Bangladesh border

A Border Security Force jawan has died in a skirmish on the border between India and Bangladesh on Thursday.

The BSF issued a statement saying that head constable Vijay Bhan Singh died in the shootout that took place during a flag meeting with Border Guards Bangladesh.

On the other hand, Border Guards Bangladesh Lieutenant Colonel Firdaus Mahmood, Commanding Officer of Rajshahi District, in a conversation with BBC Bangla, claimed that BSF entered the border of Bangladesh and opened fire on the first Border Guards Bangladesh and only then retaliated Action was taken.

He said that both sides had a flag meeting. He denied information about any casualty from Border Guards Bangladesh.

On the other hand, the BSF says that the situation went out of control when Border Guards Bangladesh was approached on Thursday to arrest some Indian fishermen on their behalf.

These fishermen were fishing in the Padma River on the India-Bangladesh border in Murshidabad district.

BS Guleria, a BSF official, said, "There was a flag meeting with Border Guards Bangladesh at five in the evening. After the meeting, the detained fishermen refused to come there and then the Border Guards Bangladesh soldiers Surrounded our soldiers all around. ''

BS Guleria said, "Border Guards Bangladesh suddenly opened fire when BSF personnel were returning towards the speedboat when the situation deteriorated."

However, Lieutenant Colonel Firdaus Mahmood has denied the death of any BSF jawan within the Bangladesh border.

Head Constable Vijay Bhan Singh died before reaching Murshidabad Medical College Hospital.

After the incident, there was a phone conversation between top officials of the Border Guards Bangladesh and the Border Security Force.

In this regard, retired DIG of BSF, Salil Kumar Mitra told BBC Bangla, "This is an unprecedented incident. There was never any firing incident in the past during a flag meeting."

"During the flag meeting, the two sides negotiate to reach an agreement on an issue," he said.

It is not clear why Border Guards Bangladesh opened fire.
