In India, the News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) has imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on Hindi news channel ZEE News and asked to apologize.
These financial penalties and apologies by NBSA on ZEE News have been imposed in March 2016 to air a news report.
In a news report, ZEE News had told the scientist and poet Gauhar Raza a "traitor" and a supporter of Afzal Guru, accused of attacking Parliament.
The NBSA is the self-regulatory complaint resolution unit of the News Broadcasters Association. News Broadcasters Association is an organization representing private news channels.
In this program called 'Afzal Premi Gang Ka Mushayara', ZEE News reported that Gauhar Raza was a supporter of Afzal Guru, convicted of the attack on Parliament.
Please tell that the poetry of Gauhar Raza was also shown in this program. Along with this, footage of anti-national slogan was also launched in JNU in this program.
NBSA has asked ZEE News Management to run this apology on September 8. Also, the video related to this program has been asked to be removed from ZEE News website.
Acting on two complaints about this, Justice RV Ravindran, who is also the chairman of NBSA, said that ZEE News has not followed the principles of fairness, neutrality, the institution of truth.
A complaint was filed by Gauhar Raza himself, while the second complaint was filed by actress Sharmila Tagore, singer Shubha Mudgal, poet Ashok Bajpai and writer Saida Hameed.
In the NBSA order it has been said that the channel did not give Professor Gauhar Raza a chance to keep his cleanliness, while his shayari was being shown in the program.
Sudhir Chaudhary, editor of ZEE news, said that his company has not violated the guidelines of NBSA. Sudhir Chaudhary said that his company is looking for legal options on this order and his company can challenge this order.
