In Tamilnadu, the Election Officer of the RK Nagar assembly constituency has asked to ban television channels from broadcasting and publishing newspapers on a video of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha in a Chennai hospital. Byelections will be held tomorrow in this constituency.
In a release, the official said that this video could directly or indirectly affect the election. He said that this broadcast is a violation of the provisions of the Public Representation Act, 1951, which prohibits the transmission of any election related material on television 48 hours prior to voting.
In Tamil Nadu, ruling All India Anna DMK has strongly condemned the Shashi Kala family for the broadcast of a video of the J Jayalalitha's hospital. Senior party leader and fisheries minister, D Jayakumar said that this is a conspiracy and considering the tomorrow's Byelection, it is a malicious act.
