It was the second day of a public hearing related to impeachment investigations against President Trump in the House of Representatives, the lower house of the US Parliament, and it once again started with a bang.
The US president was not present in the chamber during the hearing, despite his presence there.
The hearing was live on TV. President Trump trumped him via Twitter when Mary Yovanovich, the former US ambassador to Ukraine, gave her statement during the hearing.
In the tweet, he accused Mary Yovanovich of causing uproar in Somalia. He wrote, "Mary Yovanovich everywhere is spiteful. This is what Mary did in Somalia as well. What happened there?"
Information about his tweet also reached the meeting. Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff, who is investigating the impeachment, informed Yovanovich.
Yovanovich said that it is like threatening. On the Somalia charge, Yovanovich said, "I don't think I have that much power. Neither in Mogadishu, nor in Somalia, no more."
Her reply was also aired live on TV.
Chairman Adam Schiff also said Trump's tweet could be used as a way to intimidate eyewitnesses.
Trump, however, said that his tweets were not meant to threaten anyone.
Trump told reporters that he had witnessed the impeachment hearing and "it is outrageous".
Republican lawmakers also dismissed claims of bullying. MP Jim Jordan said, "The eyewitness was making her statement. If Schiff did not read the tweet to her, she would not have known about it."
It is seen in the impeachment investigation whether President Trump stopped military aid to Ukraine, because he wanted to start an investigation in corruption case against his political rival Joe Biden and for that he kept pressing were.
However, Trump said he did nothing wrong. He says these actions are taking place to "harass the president".
Mary Yovanovich was removed as the Ambassador of Ukraine in May. This means that she was removed two months before the disputed phone call between President Trump and the President of Ukraine, due to which this investigation has started.
A roughly written transcript revealed that Trump had appealed to Ukraine's President Vladimir Zelinsky to investigate the allegations against Biden and his son. Actually, they were on the board of a gas company of Ukraine.
And whose statement was taken?
An American diplomatic aide told during the impeachment investigation that he had heard the talk between President Trump and US Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland, saying that "investigations" were being discussed.
Foreign Ministry official David Holmes made a statement behind closed doors on Friday that Sondland had called Trump on a restaurant in Ukraine.
He has a copy of the statement, according to CBS News, in which Holmes said, "I heard that President Trump asked, will he (the President of Ukraine) investigate?"
Ambassador Sondland said in response that 'he will do', adding that 'President Zelinski will do whatever you want'.
At the same time, the US Ambassador to Ukraine Bill Taylor said in his statement that one of his colleagues had heard the same conversation.
According to Taylor, Sondland told the aide that the president meant only investigations against Biden in any matters related to Ukraine.
Trump has said that he has no information about this call. It is being said that this phone was made on July 26, that is, one day after the disputed phone call of Trump-Zelinski.
