After the violence in Odisha's Bhadrak, the government has banned social media for 48 hours. This ban came into force on Sunday (9th April) at 7.00 pm, which will be on Bhadrak and nearby areas.
Crime Branch of Odisha Police has started investigating an incident of communal violence in Bhadrak city, where curfew is applicable till Monday morning. Initially on Sunday, the injunction was relaxed in the city from eight to 11 o'clock in the morning, and later this period was extended up to 12 noon, so that people could buy essential consumer goods.
A police official said that the curfew was imposed later that would remain till 7am on Monday morning.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has said that about 35 Plantoon police forces have been deployed to prevent any untoward incident in the city, and two companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been sent to Bhadrak.
Naveen Patnaik attended the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Inter-State Council in New Delhi on Sunday.
He said that he has discussed the issue of Bhadrak with Home Minister Rajnath Singh and he has assured that two companies of RAF will be sent to the state.
Meanwhile, the crime branch has started investigating the alleged offensive remarks made on social media about Hindu Gods. Because of this comment, there was unrest in the city on Thursday and Friday.
Special Director General of Crime Branch BK Sharma said, "The alleged offensive remarks made and rumors on social media have started investigation by the crime branch. The Cyber Cell of Crime Branch is investigating Whatsapp data. Group Admins have been asked to provide data.''
He also said that strict action would be taken against the people behind it. On Saturday, police had arrested 35 people in connection with the conflict.
Sub-revenue commissioner AB Ota said that the situation has improved considerably, but the situation will take some days to normalize. He said that the curfew will be relaxed gradually. Violence erupted in Bhadrak on Friday about the alleged objectionable comments made by Hindu God Ram and Goddess Sita on the social site. In view of the instability, curfew was imposed in the area.
