Corona Lockdown: Will Modi Government Accept Rahul Gandhi-Abhijeet Banerjee's Advice?

 05 May 2020 ( News Bureau )

Rahul Gandhi, former national president of the Indian National Congress, spoke to Nobel laureate economist Abhijit Banerjee on Tuesday.

In this conversation the challenges of the economy during the Corona crisis between the two were discussed.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi spoke to former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan. In Rahul Gandhi's conversation, Banerjee's biggest emphasis was on the government giving money in the hands of the people.

Banerjee believes that the purchasing power of the people should remain and they should also maintain that when the lockdown opens, they will have money to spend. Therefore, the central government should give money to as many people as possible.

In a video conferencing with Rahul Gandhi, Banerjee said that India will have to give a big incentive package like the US so that people can get money and the demand in the market can increase.

Banerjee also praised some steps of the Modi government.

Abhijeet Banerjee said that the government had done a good job by imposing a three-month moratorium on the payment of the loan, but also said that it would have been better that the government would have announced to forgive and repay the payment in full.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi asked if people could be given money on the lines of NYAY?

Banerjee said that why not, if 60 percent of the lower class population give some money in the hands, then there is nothing wrong in it.

During the last Lok Sabha elections, the Congress promised NYAY in its manifesto.

Under this, it was promised to give 72 thousand rupees annually to about 5 crore families of the country.

Who wrote what on social media?

The conversation of Rahul and Abhijeet Banerjee is also discussed on social media.

Senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai tweeted, "First Raghuram Rajan and now Abhijeet Banerjee. Now that Rahul Gandhi has become the interviewee, then we should move on to another career. Unlike the news anchors, Rahul Gandhi listen the interviewer without interfering.

Sanya Rathore wrote, "I heard this discussion and personally I believe that Dr. Manmohan Singh should have been included in it. He could have given us accurate information about our economy."

Neha Chauhan, who describes herself as a Congress supporter, writes, "The thing to note here is that the focus of Rahul Gandhi is on the poor and Abhijeet Banerjee is helping us explain the new definition of poverty. Due to this epidemic, many people were pushed towards poverty.

A lot of people also wrote on Twitter, "Rahul Gandhi communicates with economists Raghuram Rajan and Abhijeet Banerjee. PM Narendra Modi interacts with Akshay Kumar and Salman.''
